The old museum

Svendborg Zoological Museum opened in 1935. The focus of the exhibitions was a complete collection of Danish birds. Later, more showcases and many more objects and stuffed animals came to the museum.

Svendborg Zoological Museum told the story of Denmark’s wildlife in the past and present.

It is still possible to experience the atmosphere and the exhibitions in the old Svendborg Zoological Museum, as one of the original exhibition spaces in the old museum is preserved with dioramas (showcases where the stuffed animals are staged in artificial natural settings), and the traditional way of convey natural history on.

In addition to containing a number of dioramas of older date, the exhibition contains a number of hilarious anecdotes about the founder Harald Thomsen, which is accompanied by a number of photographs and curious museum objects from the old museum.
