A Changing Nature

Our nature has always been in constant change, and each year, our Danish nature faces annual transformations with the changing of the seasons. However, looking at recent decades, climate change has brought about alterations that affect the world’s ecosystems in entirely different ways. Meet our guide as we focus on a changing nature through our exhibition.

All over the globe, the consequences of climate change are being felt, and the results of climate change are also noticeable at home. Extremely variable weather conditions, rising temperatures, and periods of drought are affecting our Danish nature in the same way as in many other parts of the world.

The diversity of our nature is a result of a perfectly balanced cycle, where each species plays its individual role. However, climate change, along with many other factors, is impacting our natural inhabitants: Changes in marine ecosystems due to new compositions of fish stocks in the oceans. Potential new species in Danish nature may be one of the results of our changing climate, while other well-known species will face significant decline in favor of other, better-adapted species.

Increasing amounts of rainfall can have a significant impact on our streams and lakes, while periods of drought can have equally large consequences.

North of Denmark, the impact on wildlife is already clearly visible. Species closely linked to the Icelandic landscape are facing challenges such as food shortages and changing weather conditions. The ice is melting, which has posed major challenges for Greenland’s fauna.

Our guide will delve into specific examples of how climate change is affecting our local nature and explore how we can take a step closer to being part of the solution.
