Guided tour: Little heroes create great nature

Join us for a very special tour of Naturama in the character of the dormouse.

Naturama’s natureguide will take you on a very special guided tour every Saturday and Sunday in September at 2:00 PM.

In the midst of the biodiversity crisis, there are a few species that – if we protect them – can help change course towards a future with a healthier and more species-rich nature.

The dormouse is one of these species, namely what we call an indicator species. The dormouse is probably one of Denmark’s cutest animals – but at the same time it has an incredibly important role. The dormouse’s presence says an incredible amount about how good a natural area is.

The dormouse makes great demands on its area – there must be a densely vegetated forest floor, lots of different food and, not least, plenty of space. It may sound like a bit much that such a small species can make such great demands.

But the fact that the dormouse is a bit picky typically means that lots of other animals also love to live in the area where the dormouse lives. Here there is plenty of food, good cover and it constitutes the perfect habitat for most of the forest’s animals. And with lots of different animals and plants we get exactly the nature area we want.
